Anwar Alfutaih
Chevening Class 2024
The idea behind what is now the Chevening Youth Hub began in 2014, when I first learned about Chevening. I was inspired by the power of knowledge, leadership, and a global community that could open doors for young people who had lived for years with conflict, corruption, fragility, and limited access to opportunity.
On 15 July 2024, that idea became a local initiative in Yemen. Over two years, it grew beyond its first context, reaching more young people and showing that the same challenges were shared across many conflict-affected and fragile settings in the region.
On our second anniversary, we launched the Chevening Youth Hub; an independent and sustainable leadership platform that brings together the Chevening community around a shared purpose: expanding opportunities for young people whose potential has been constrained by conflict, fragility, exclusion, and limited access to opportunity.
We are grateful to Chevening and the University of South Wales for their professional and academic support in helping turn this initiative into a reality on the ground. Above all, this journey is guided by one belief: when young people are trusted, equipped, and connected, they can lead meaningful change in their communities and beyond.
